There is no way I can talk about this movie without launching into hyperbole. This is the best foreign film I have ever seen. It even tops the venerable “Cinema Paradiso”. It is as funny and incisive as any comedy, as powerful and rich as any drama, as shocking and gory as any horror movie, as visually stunning and artistic as anything shot by Spielberg, Hitchcock or John Ford. It literally covers every base and leaves the viewer in a better place for the experience. “Devils on the Doorstep” is in the same league as “Citizen Kane” “Casablanca” and “The Grand Illusion”. In other words it is in a league of films that are in a league of their own. The most hilarious thing is this movie is practically unknown. I had a friend give it to me and I am so glad I saw it. This is a hands-down THE bucket list movie if there ever was one.

Hey yall I’m writing this as I watch the movie OLD BOY. It is severely messed up. If you’ve never seen it I don’t know what to tell you yet as I am about two thirds of the way through. Basically it’s about a man who has been locked away in a room for ten years. No explanation is given for his abduction. The world outside gets ten years older and he is “unleashed” up on it. That’s all the info I can give you. Nonetheless, here’s a SPOILER ALERT. The girl that helps the old man out has something to do with a character he wants to see at the beginning of the movie. In fact it may be her… gross.

I realize I’m doing alot of tweeting and facebooking but this damn blog has to be good for something so here goes…

I’m going to sound like my own publicity department here but INKUBUS has been a career high for me. In hindsight it did not take long to produce. From script to screen was only four years. That may seem like a long time to some but I know of some scripts that have been languishing in development for decades. Nonetheless it seemed like forever before the cameras started rolling. I remember harassing producer Michael Corrente the first of every month. He even said “You might feel like you’re being a pain in the ass but keep calling us…” I had the support of actor Tom Denucci who was a big fan of the script from the beginning as well, back when INKUBUS was called SHIFT CHANGE. At different points it looked like Corrente was going to direct and different people were lined up to play the title role: Lance Henriksen, with whom I had worked on Hellraiser: Hellworld and Eric Roberts. It seemed like around March of 2010 things started happening very quickly. A very ambitious three week shooting schedule in May was set up. Here I have to introduce producer and moneyman Chad Verdi and director Glenn Ciano who did some work on the script, introduced some characters/elements that were in keeping with his vision of INKUBUS. Now filmmaking is a collaborative medium and mainly a director’s medium. I would not have made the choices Glenn did but he pushed the mythology of the monster further in the right direction. INKUBUS became the demon in us all. I like that concept. Also Glenn did allow me to hang out on the set every day of the shoot. That was very cool. I became the official observer of my own script being shot. What a trip! I met some of my favorite actors: William Forsythe, Jonathan Silverman, of course Robert Englund. Other actors who I came to call friends: Dyan Kane, Tom Paolino, Tom Denucci, Michelle Ray Smith, the hilarious Mike Cerrone and one of those guys you don’t see coming Joey Fatone, whose performance gives the movie a unique center of gravity. So I met a bunch of new people. But there were two people from my past with whom I never thought I’d work again. Make-up artist Brenda McNally and camera man Ben Deluca. We used to work on local commercials and industrial videos way way back in the day. I remember running and gunning with Ben from one end of Rhode Island to the other grabbing (mostly) steadicam shots. Now we were working together on this film… which I wrote. Forgive me if I repeat myself but what a trip! Post on INKUBUS took roughly a year (did I mention the production company shot and edited two other movies which you’ll no doubt here about soon?) but it finally made its premiere in October at this year’s Rock And Shock, in front of no less than five hundred screaming Robert Englund fans. Later that month it came out in a limited engagement, playing on the big screen in about twenty states in the US. What an incredible thing it is to see your work on the big screen. Phenomenal. I have lost all objectivity with the finished product but the reviews and word of mouth have generally been good. Any complaints I could have about this project are small potatoes in comparison with the fact that something out of my head played in theaters and will be available in other media next year. In closing I reiterate… what a trip!
